EXPLORING SHIMMY
Shimmy is one of the most versatile movements used by belly dancers. Shimmy not only can be performed in many different ways, but also all over the body. It can be used to interpret many different moods and can also be used as a way to call attention to elements in the background of a piece of music. It is sometimes
a prime movement for interpreting the main focus of a musical piece, for example in a drum, qanoun or oud solo.
In this segment of the class, we will learn about shimmy from the fundamental
movement to complex layers and phrases. We will earn how stance and intensity create different kinds of shimmies and how specific shimmies serve to express different tempos, moods, rhythms and instruments.

WORLD TRIBAL COMBINATIONS FOR IMPROV TRIBAL DANCING

The explosion of music fusing different cultures has provided a wealth of musical options for both tribal and cabaret belly dancers. In this workshop, you will learn many combinations that incorporate the flavor of Flamenco, Indian, African, Gypsy, and Modern/Hip Hop dance for use in belly dance. Cues and transitions will be covered for use in Improvisational Tribal Style dance, but the combinations are suitable for solo and choreographed dancing.
