Mixed Level I & II ... in Central Phoenix
Sessions start on the 1st Tuesday of each month.
This class is the starting point for learning Middle Eastern dance. You'll lay the foundation for great technique with basic movements for hips, torso, arms and traveling steps. With fun drills, we'll explore the connection between the movements and Arabic rhythm patterns. We'll even get musical with the zills! Continuing Level II students are challenged with variation, layering and emphasis on fine-tuning their basic technique.
Each month will focus on a new set of skills, concepts and rhythms. Using these, we'll explore combinations and variations on these themes to expand your technique and get you dancing!
The Beginner Bellydance curriculum is covered in independent units over 6 months so you can start in any month and keep building your dance vocabulary!

Baraem Jamila Student Troupe
New troupe members will be accepted in January 2011.
Baraem Jamila on Channel 12's "Valley Dish"
Baraem Jamila Student Troupe offers dancers the opportunity to develop their dance diversity and performance skills. The troupe works on and presents a variety of choreographies through the year including at the Arizona Arab-American Festival and Cairo Caravan (CA) each June.
Troupe members must be able to commit to weekly practice, continue their study in class and workshops, be willing to purchase costuming and to travel once or twice a year. Students that show interest, skills and reliability in class attendance are invited to consider a troupe position to take their dance skills to the next level. Invitations are extended in December and June of each year when the new season's choreographies begin production.
What Should I Wear and Bring To Class?
Please wear comfortable exercise clothes such as yoga pants,
sweatpants or bike shorts and a fitted top. Either bare feet or
soft-soled dance shoes are fine. Body alignment is very important and cannot
be effectively checked in skirts or oversized t-shirts. A yoga mat is useful for
seated exercises but not essential.
